The UK’s woodlands offer some of the country’s most spectacular scenery and are teeming with wildlife, birds, mammals, reptiles and insects. Our forests provide plenty of opportunities for walking, cycling, horse riding, orienteering, camping, caravanning, fishing, bird watching and a whole host of other activities enjoyed by people of all ages.
To celebrate the splendour of our forests and woodlands the Yorkshire Agricultural Society is holding a Woodland photographic competition to encourage people to visit, enjoy and photograph their favourite trees and woodland areas in the UK. The theme this year is Seasons in the Wood and photos submitted should clearly depict either Winter, Spring, Summer or Autumn.
32 finalist photos will be selected and their photos displayed in the Forestry Pavilion at the Great Yorkshire Show where visitors will vote for their favourite photographs during Tuesday 10th - Thursday 12th July, after which the winners will be announced.
There are 2 categories:
Junior – up to and including age 16 years old
Senior – 17 years old and over
Each category winner will receive £50 Jessops voucher for photographic equipment and the overall winners’ prize will be £100 Jessops voucher.
To enter the competition please download and complete the entry form and send a 7x5” photo by 1st June 2012 (please also supply a high resolution jpeg file so the photograph can be enlarged for display at the show if required). Photos can be of woodlands or individual trees. Entries in the 2011 woodland photographic competition cannot be submitted again for the 2012 competition.
