Disabled Access

We aim to make visiting the Great Yorkshire Show a comfortable and enjoyable experience for people with disabilities.

We welcome any observations on further improvements.

Parking for the Disabled

Sainsbury's car park has been designated as the disabled car park for the Great Yorkshire Show. Access to the car park is from Wetherby Road. Directions to the disabled car park will be clearly indicated on the direction signs on all designated routes.

Disabled permits must be clearly visible and access will only be granted to registered disabled drivers or their helpers and GYS disabled visitor parking labels. Parking spaces cannot be reserved.

To facilitate easier access to the Showground there will be a pedestrian gateway from Sainsbury's car park to the Orange Entrance.  There will also be a pick up point in the car park outside Orange Gate, opposite the Amenity Site on Wetherby Road.

The majority of walkways are of hard-standing and most public buildings and animal areas have ramps or are accessible by wheelchairs. Whilst we try to ensure that the grass avenues are flat, the Showground is on a sloping site which means that some degree of effort is required to push a wheelchair around the Great Yorkshire Show.

Concessionary Tickets

Officially recognised organisations for the disabled should apply for concessionary tickets for disabled visitors and their carers or attendants. Applications should be made no later than the end of June 2012.

Ticket prices are as follows:

Adult £20 (over 60's £19)
Attendant Free
Child (5-18)   £9
Attendant Free

Concessions for disabled visitors are only available in advance by calling the ticket line 01423 541222 (Mon-Fri, 9am-5pm).

Disabled Toilets

The majority of the toilets on the Showground have disabled facilities which are clearly shown on plans around the Showground. Maps are available to purchase with the Programme.

The toilet facilities are frequently monitored for cleanliness.

Grandstand Access

Viewing platforms are available for disabled visitors and their attendants at the ends of the Grandstand. The spaces are free of charge and are allocated on a first come, first serve basis.

There is a £5 booking charge for the remainder of the Grandstand. These should be booked in advance & are available from 1st June 2012.

Fair Mobility

To help visitors who have either permanent or temporary mobility problems, Fair Mobility are providing a wheelchair and electric scooter hire service at the Show, situated on Third Avenue near the Orange Entrance.

Charges for 2011 were: £20 per day for electric scooters and powerchairs, and £10 per day for manual wheelchairs - currently waiting on 2012 prices.  Visitors are strongly advised to pre-book to guarantee availability by ringing the booking line 01949 845189, which is manned by volunteers Monday to Friday from 10am to 3pm.  There is an answerphone at other times to request a call back.  Alternatively, send an email enquiry to info@fair-mobility.org.uk.

More information about this service may be found on www.fair-mobility.org.uk
